August 1, 2002

The Weiss boys' new look~ @_@;;; Dear God, this must've caused fangirls around the world to scream in horror... I know I did.

11:19 AM

Here's my time table for semester two~ I thought it'd be interesting to see, because it... IS interesting :P Only thing I don't like about it is that I have two morning Maths lectures... I don't know if I can keep on waking up at 8 AM for them ;_; <- lazy XD

On other news, I finally registered for Manifest today, at the pre-registration rate, which ends tomorrow ^^;; It's only AU $3 difference, but still... ^o^~ I'm really looking forward to it >D

... ugh... upset stomach... I wonder what I ate last night/this morning that could cause my digestive system to go haywire like this? ><;;

August 7, 2002

Apparently, lots of people are planning to cosplay in this year's Manifest. Last year we had a very nifty FF VIII group... I wonder what kind of characters are going to show up this time? I really wish some cute blonde guy would dress up as Link... or maybe Sydney, if he's thinner... so I can drool all over him :P And yeah, I'm expecting to see at least two Yunas walking around. Otakon was practically swarmed with girls in Yuna dresses, it seems O_o;;

The university's anime club has been screening Full Metal Panic, and I find the series to be extremely entertaining. It's really, really good~ The art is excellent, and it's funny without being stupid or annoying. I don't usually like mecha/military kind of stories, but I thoroughly enjoy every episode of FMP. That's gotta be something, I guess. Oh, plenty of bishounen and bishoujo too XD

August 11, 2002

Damn, I'm pooped @_@;;; So went the first day of Manifest 2002, and it has been such a wonderful day. I woke up at about 9 AM in the morning, and the UNSW anime club people arrived at about 9:30 AM. After a lot of fiddling with Fiesan's Yuna costume, we finally left for Manifest. Upon arriving, we found a registration queue that was close to, oh, ten metres long? It'd have taken us hours to get in if we hadn't pre-registered... apparently the Manifest committee didn't expect so many attendees (about 700 -- last year's Manifest had about 300 attendees. Talk about exponential growth :P) Anyway, we got in to find a HUGE crowd of people, most of which were surrounding the dealers' tables, which meant I didn't get to see any of their items clearly -- but I did score a Weiß Kreuz playing card with 54 different illustrations! I wish I could've seen more though... there were soooo many artbooks and merchandise that I drooled upon seeing. We attended various panels and the Great Debate, which was hilarious, and, needless to say, packed full of people. The cosplay competition, which was supposed to be held in one of the smaller theatres, had to be moved into the main theatre, because of the amazing number of crowd that turned up. There were like 50 different cosplayers, compared to last years' 15 (or was it 10? heh). The costume winner had a Freya costume on, which was rather kewl looking. Fiesan's Yuna apparently lost some points because she didn't have the staff, but methinks the costume was really good. Anyway... after the cosplay competition (and loads of photos taken), we went back to my apartment and put some of the costume thingies there so they wouldn't have to be carried around for the rest of the night. After a short rest, we left for a pizza dinner on Lygon's Street (Melbourne's Little Italy -- really really yummy pizza and pasta), and turned up late for the trivia competition, which the UNSW people had already signed up for. The trivia was, like, REALLY hard. It looked almost impossible to me anyhow, because out of the 80+ questions I heard, I was only able to answer 1 or 2 :P The UNSW people were good though; they did quite well, despite missing the first round of the trivia. It ended at around 10 PM, and by the time we were all tired and sleepy and the Manifest committee people were really hungry, due to the lack of dinnertime. So all of us (30+ people) headed towards Lygon Street, and due to the girls' (including me) incessant nagging for gelato, we all crashed at the gelato shop, and satisfied our gelato cravings. Ohhh, veeeerrrry nice gelato they have there, REALLY. Afterwards we found ourselves a cozy Italian cafe/restaurant for the Manifest committee people to have dinner at, and we chatted and ate and drank and stuff. Talked about lots of stuff, including how next year's Manifest could be improved. Apparently they plan to start inviting guests (like, Japanese guests and all), because Manifest's gotten rather huge. Maybe we're gonna have an artist's alley too, who knows? Wooo ^o^~ Anyway... yeah... so... after dinner, we were all exhausted, but managed to crawl back home. I'm still typing this long semi-report entry despite the fact that I feel absolutely ready to collapse onto my bed, so you should be grateful XP Need to wake up really early tomorrow to go to church and have fun on the second day~

12:43 AM

Addendum: The UNSW people brought me the Kanata-kara Kyoko Hikawa illustrations book and the Harlem Beat artbook~! They are really too nice T_T;;; I almost died of happiness (and excessive drooling) when I saw those~

Oh, and I only saw James for a split second today, I wonder where he was for the rest of the day? @_@;; And Sen, why didn't you come? T_T;; You HAVE to show up tomorrow, or else... XP

August 12, 2002

Day two Manifest 2002 con report: We arrived there at noon, and immediately attacked the dealers' room. Some of the highlights of my loot include the illustration book of the Full Metal Panic manga, which also includes art from the author's other series. Very very very googily art @_@;;;; I also got a metal Weiß Kreuz Aya bookmark, which is also seriously googily. I made it my aim to see as many screenings as possible today, so that I could check out which series I should rent on video next :P I saw Hikaru no Go ep. 1 & 2, and decided it was very nifty and cute. Saw Kaikan Phrase, and decided that it was bishounen-laden and cool. Saw Yami no Matsuei as well, and decided that it was also bishounen-laden, and decided to start renting them all, because I couldn't choose XP Afterwards there was the cosplay competition, which was smaller than yesterday's, but was really good. There were two Yunas (Fiesan was one of them), and both of them won the costume awards, with Fie's costume as the 1st place winner. Wooo :D~ Then there was the closing ceremony, in which they told us that last year, they had approx. 170 pre-regs and around 300 attendees. This year, there are about 400 pre-regs and roughly 800+ attendees~ No wonder it was uh, rather crowded. I had to go back to the apartment afterwards because three of the UNSW people had to leave for the airport and needed to get their bags. Went back to Manifest and proceeded to the main theatre for the anime karaoke, which was really rather cool. The band, a6m, was really good, but the highlight of the evening was when the guy who cosplayed as Wolfwood began singing Fly Me to the Moon, and when afterwards the band played Trigun's opening theme in all its glory. And that was the end of Manifest 2002... we then searched the city for someplace to eat, because it was late Sunday evening and only a couple of restaurants were open. We eventually crashed at A1, a Chinese restaurant which was rather small but very affordable and yummy. Though most of us felt really full after the meal, we decided to have some dessert (*_*;;;), so we went to Fast Eddy's and ordered a couple of cheesecakes, bread puddings, spiders and choc fudge -- basically sweet, fattening, really nice stuff. Boy am I feeling content right now =3

August 17, 2002

Just a quick update as to my current situation (no, I'm not dead yet, though Manifest certainly almost killed me):

I borrowed Memnoch the Devil from the university's library -- didn't dare to buy it, since I finished the last couple of Vampire Chronicles books in one night each. I ended up reading Memnoch in one night too. Awesome story. Lestat. ARMAND T_T;;;;

I'm having an artbook fever. I won a Yami no Matsuei artbook from eBay for only US $10.50, but the shipping is like US $12 @_@;;; I should've bid on the other one as well... but it wasn't like I had enough time. I came across the auction only two minutes before it ended T_T;;; Oh well... and I'm STILL browsing eBay for more artbooks... Saiyuki, or Minako Narita's maybe... I want all the artbooks from all the manga and mangaka I like! XP It is very sad that Manifest (and anime cons in general, I guess) has prolonged negative effect on your budget. Must stop ><;;

August 23, 2002

Mwah... I don't post a lot here lately, do I? I've been really busy... too many things to do, too little time. Working on loads of artworks at once, as well as pondering about various school projects and trying to actually START doing them. I don't know, I've been in such a rush that my brain isn't even functioning properly. I can almost hear it buzzing... see? I'm talking nonsense here... oijqwpuopiUBioeu;kadkj

...will post more when brain goes back to normal, okay?

Heh... turns out the due date for the programming project (one of the three assignments I have right now) has been extended to September 5th. That leaves me with a Maths assignment, due next Monday, and the scaree Psychology lab report, due next Monday as well. I would've slaved over my Psych report instead of the programming project if I'd known it'd be extended >P The program is now 95% done, while the lab report... erh... I haven't even started working on it yet O_o;; As for the Maths assignment... heh, I will think about that later. It's not that important :Þ Fortunately, I've finished all commissioned artworks I owed people, so life's no longer as chaotic as it had been in the last couple of weeks.

I'm seriously considering switching to LJ... having an off-site journal sounds like a good idea ATM. Especially with all the problems Blogger and YACCS keep on having *_*;;

I also want to redesign the site... I have a prototype layout finished already, but not enough time to do the massive site makeover I'd need to do. Maybe later this year~~

August 29, 2002

I am deeply in love with pizza. I've always liked pizza, but these days I find that I just HAVE to have it everyday. One of the cafés at uni sells 3 slices of yummy pizza for AU $3.50 (approx. US $1.60), which is, well, cheap, and I usually have those for lunch. I like capriciossa =3 And on Saturdays and Sundays, I usually resort to the nearest Italian restaurant's pizza, which happens to be very good and is quite reasonably priced, though not as cheap. I know it's hardly the most healthy food around, but I love it T_T;; Pizza is good.

02:03 AM

I got my Yami no Matsuei Sketch Book~ I really dig Yoko Matsushita's art style, it's sooo beautiful TT;;;; *flips over a couple more pages* ARGH those boys are TOO DAMN PRETTY XP

03:12 PM

Most of the time, I don't really like what/how I draw; even though I do get praises and compliments from kind people, I usually don't think I'm good enough to can actually be proud of my art. However, there are times when I actually do feel satisfied with it, and this be one of those rare-ish cases. For once, I'm actually enjoying the way my drawings turn out, loving how the faces look and how the colors go together. I used to think that once you feel contented with your skills, you stop improving... but I guess indulging in your pride once in a while wouldn't hurt XD~
